On the professional side, working in a Scrum environment has been great on many levels. What I like the most is how decisions are made collaboratively and how I have a voice in the direction my projects take. This gives me pride of ownership and makes my workday that much more enjoyable.
I have been happy with how much the company promotes a good work/life balance. I enjoy our office location amongst the Sorrento Valley canyons and it is nice to be able to look out at the panoramic view and to take a walk in such a scenic area during the day. I have enjoyed participating in offsite activities such as my team’s bowling, pool and go-karting outings.

As a place to work, DefenseWeb/nliven has a rare combination of qualities. The projects we work on here are intrinsically rewarding and make a significant positive impact on people's lives, which is not often the case in this industry. For example, I had the opportunity to work as an architect on a Medical Evaluation Board application in support of the Wounded Warrior program enacted by Congress. This web application is now allowing medical providers to better monitor and evaluate the fitness for duty of service personnel, and is helping thousands of wounded service members get quicker and better access to the help and support they need. There is also an eagerness -- projected throughout the organization -- to understand and incorporate new technologies and technical trends into the solutions that we provide. As a result, I am always learning and being encouraged to innovate at work. This dynamism is supported by a collaborative company culture, where people are encouraged to contribute ideas beyond the normal scope of their responsibilities -- including ideas for products, company branding, and ways of applying new technologies -- and these are often taken quite seriously by the executive team and upper management, and occasionally seen to fruition. Finally, on a more personal level, I enjoy coming to work for a company where the CEO remembers my favorite football team and is willing to take a few moments to talk football between meetings, and the CTO knows the names of everyone in my family and frequently asks how they are doing.
